Mail Shrimp

Every once in a while I see an ad and wonder how on earth they came up with an idea like that.

This is definitely one of those ads. Enjoy!

More food dancing

About five minutes after I posted the wonderful Sainsbury's food dancing spot an email landed in my inbox asking if I'd seen the print work.

Which of course I hadn't as I would've posted that too.

So better late than never here it is.

Lovely work from the always reliable W+K London.

Food Dancing

When I first heard about the Sainsbury 'Food Dancing' ad I thought it was going to be similart to what I think is th definitive food campaign - Lurpack.

W+K London are responsible for both and they couldn't be more difference.

Pretty cool don't you think?

Just don't do it!

I've always said that passion and persistence are more important than talent.

And nowhere is this more self evident than in the baffling on court behaviour of young Aussie tennis player Nick Kyrgios.

His exit from the Australian Open last week was another example of his lack of passion and persistence.

Perhaps Nike would be better off changing their tagline for their Kyrgios ads to Just Don't Do It.

Chocolate poster

In the early part of my career my art director and I created a box of chocolate phones as a promo for Ericsson.

The promo packs were supposed to be dispatched at the end of winter but for reasons I can't recall the client put the mail out on hold for three months.

Which meant they were sent out during summertime. In Australia. Doh!

I was reminded of this job when I heard about the posters created for the 5th birthday of chocolate maker Videri.

They're made out of chocolate. Top quality chocolate too.

Fingers crossed they fared better during delivery than some of mine did!

emeriH

It's never been easy getting a job in the creative department of an agency.

But young art director August Laustsen was finding it harder than most.

In fact he never heard back from any of the Swedish agencies he approached.

So he decided to think like a client. Or more correctly look, act and think like a client.

He sent out the following letter and get several responses from it:

My name is August and I'm the marketing director of EMERIH. We're a creative consulting company with our main office in Copenhagen.

After big success in Denmark, we're now planning on expanding to the Swedish market and are looking for a new creative agency in Sweden.

We do work for a wide range of clients from small non-profit organizations to giants like Coca-Cola.

We really admire the work you've done for [insert] and would like to talk about the possibilities of a future cooperation.

Since a large part of our business model is based on creativity, it's important that the creative department have a look at our website before we take it any further.

You'll find it here: emerih.co

Best regards, August Laustsen Marketing Director EMERIH

In case you were wondering EMERIH is 'hire me' spelt backwards!

Completely nuts!

Original is never finished

Beautiful art direction. Razor sharp editing. Great use of music. Plus old school VHS tracking lines in the closing moments. Seriously what's not to like?

Not so pure

I always get my creative people to show their work to a colleague before it leaves the department.

A fresh set of eyes often sees things the creator cannot.

Sadly I don't think anyone with fresh eyes took a look at this maple syrup poster.

What's up pussycat?

Cats are big on the internet. We all know that.

So the popularity of this Kitty Kommercial should probably not come as a surprise.

It definitely falls into the so bad it's good category. But what sent it viral (so to speak) was a bit of love on Reddit.

Since it hit the Reddit front page it has racked up well over four million YouTube views.

Break free with Adidas

This film has gone totally viral while I've been away on holiday in New Zealand.

And is it any wonder?

Beautifully made and a genuine tugger of heartstrings. I doubt Adidas could ever make something as genuinely emotive as this piece by fourth year film student Eugen Merher.

Watching the old guy hold back the nurse as the hero runs free reminded me a lot of the closing scene from Cuckoos Nest where the Chief breaks the window with the water fountain.

What a great ad to kick start 2017 on BrandDNA. If only it was an actual ad...
